NTA cancels NEET UG 2026 examination, fresh exam schedule to be released separately
The decision comes after multiple investigations were initiated across different states regarding allegations of question paper leaks and unauthorized circulation of examination material before the test. According to sources, central agencies and law-enforcement departments shared findings indicating the involvement of organized networks that allegedly accessed and distributed confidential examination content.
Investigating teams, including state-level special operations units, are understood to have traced communication records, financial transactions, and digital evidence connected with the illegal sharing of question papers among candidates and intermediaries. Some coaching institutions and individuals are also reportedly under investigation for their possible role in the matter.
Authorities stated that the evidence collected during the inquiry raised serious concerns over the fairness and integrity of the examination process. After reviewing the available material, officials concluded that continuing with the present examination cycle would not be appropriate in the interest of students and the credibility of the national testing system.
The matter has also been referred for a wider investigation, and the concerned agencies are expected to conduct a detailed inquiry into all allegations linked to the examination. NTA has assured full cooperation with investigators and stated that all relevant records and information will be provided whenever required.
The Agency acknowledged that reconducting the examination may create inconvenience and uncertainty for lakhs of aspirants and their families. However, officials maintained that maintaining transparency, fairness, and public trust in the examination system remains the highest priority.
NTA further clarified that all applications submitted for the May 2026 examination cycle will remain valid for the fresh examination. Candidates will not need to register again, and new admit cards containing updated exam dates and center details will be issued separately.
Students and parents have been advised to follow only official announcements released by the National Testing Agency and avoid relying on rumors or unverified information circulating on social media platforms.
