NEET UG 2026 Round 1 Counselling Schedule Extended: AIQ & State Quota Dates, Joining Deadline and Key Instructions

NEET UG 2026 Round 1 Counselling Schedule: Important Dates

The latest NEET-UG Schedule 2026 issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on 19 August 2026 provides the Round 1 admission and joining timeline for All India Quota (AIQ), Deemed/Central Universities and State Quota counselling.

According to the official schedule, candidates must carefully track their respective counselling deadlines because the timelines for AIQ/Deemed/Central Universities and State Counselling are different.

NEET UG 2026 Round 1 Counselling Dates

Counselling CategoryRound 1 AdmissionLast Date of JoiningJoined Candidate Data Verification
AIQ / Deemed / Central Universities4 August 2026 to 21 August 202631 August 2026MCC: 1 September 2026
State Quota13 August 2026 to 27 August 20265 September 2026State DMEs/State Counselling Authorities: 6 September 2026

The schedule specifically lists 4 August to 21 August 2026 for Round 1 admissions under All India Quota/Deemed & Central Universities, while State Counselling Round 1 admissions are scheduled from 13 August to 27 August 2026.

AIQ, Deemed & Central Universities: Round 1

For candidates participating through All India Quota, Deemed Universities and Central Universities, the Round 1 admission period runs from:

4 August 2026 to 21 August 2026

The last date for joining the allotted seat is 31 August 2026.

After this, the schedule provides for verification of joined candidate data by MCC on 1 September 2026.

Candidates who receive a seat allotment should therefore not wait until the final day to complete their admission and joining formalities.

State Quota Round 1 Counselling

For State Quota counselling, Round 1 admission is scheduled from:

13 August 2026 to 27 August 2026

The last date for joining a Round 1 State Quota seat is 5 September 2026.

The schedule further specifies that verification of joined candidates' data by the respective State DMEs/State Counselling Authorities will take place on 6 September 2026.

This means candidates participating in both AIQ and State Quota counselling need to monitor the two schedules separately and should not assume that the deadlines are identical.

Important: Saturdays, Sundays & Gazetted Holidays Will Be Working Days

One of the most important instructions in the official schedule is that, considering the limited time available for conducting counselling, all participating institutes and colleges have been directed to treat Saturdays, Sundays and Gazetted Holidays as working days.

Therefore, candidates should not assume that admission or joining work will stop because of a weekend or gazetted holiday.

Joined Candidate Data Will Be Used for Round 3 Seat Processing

The schedule also contains an important coordination provision between MCC and the State Counselling Authorities.

According to the document, the data of candidates who have joined their allotted seats will be shared by DMEs/State Counselling Authorities with MCC for the purpose of weeding out during seat processing of Round 3.

This makes it particularly important for candidates to understand the implications of accepting and joining a seat before making decisions in subsequent counselling rounds.

What Should NEET 2026 Candidates Do Now?

Candidates should:

  • Check their Round 1 seat allotment carefully.
  • Verify the reporting and admission requirements of the allotted college.
  • Complete joining formalities within the applicable deadline.
  • Keep all required original documents and copies ready.
  • Track both MCC/AIQ counselling and State Quota counselling separately.
  • Avoid assuming that weekends or holidays mean colleges will not process admissions.
  • Keep checking official counselling notifications for any subsequent updates.

Candidates who are still evaluating their options can also use the NEET College Predictor to explore potential MBBS college options based on their NEET profile.

For candidates specifically comparing All India Quota opportunities, the NEET All India Quota College Predictor can help in evaluating possible colleges.
