Supreme Court Pulls Up NTA Over NEET UG 2026, Questions Reform Implementation

The petitioners' counsel highlighted the urgency of the matter, noting that nearly 23 lakh students appeared for the NEET-UG exam this year and requested an early hearing.

During the proceedings, the Bench expressed concern over the situation and pointed toward the reform measures and monitoring mechanisms that had previously been established to improve examination transparency and security.

The Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to submit an affidavit within three days explaining the current status of the monitoring committee and the actions taken so far.

Concerned authorities have also been asked to provide details regarding the implementation of recommendations made by the high-powered committee that was created to strengthen safeguards in the examination system.

The matter is expected to come up again after these affidavits are filed, with the focus likely to be on whether the promised reforms were actually implemented effectively.
